Audio Radar’s origin story began in 2015—back when most FPS games only supported 2.1 or 5.1 surround sound. Even though the tech wasn’t there yet, the idea was.
The spark came when Tim Murphy, founder of Airdrop Gaming and former Navy radar tech, played Call of Duty with the volume turned all the way down. Experiencing the game without sound was disorienting—it revealed just how much of the experience relied on audio. That moment created empathy and awareness for the unmet needs of d/Deaf and hard of hearing players.
By 2019, game audio had evolved, 7.1 surround sound was becoming standard, and that early concept became highly relevant—and much-needed.
Tim's mission became clear: build a user-focused device that would visualize directional game audio in real time. After several years of development and months of testing, Audio Radar officially launched in June 2024—a game-changer for accessibility in gaming.
